Range

C. South America mostly s. of the Amazon;
Two populations;
(1) Se. Colombia, e. Ecuador and w. Brazil along the Amazon to Rio Negro and s. of the Amazon to Rio Madeira into the lowlands e. of the Andes in nc. Bolivia.
The unique type of the Maroon-banded Aracari was collected at Joao Pessoa on the w. bank of upper Rio Jurua, Amazonian Brazil.
(2) Nc. Brazil s. of the Amazon from the Rio Madeira e. to Maranhao and nw. Piaui then s. in e. Peru, e. Bolivia and sw. Mato Grosso in the upper Rio Paraguay drainage and the upper Tocantins. A small isolated population occurs in ex. e. Brazil (Pernambuco and e. Alagoas).
