Range

W. to c. Europe e. to the Caspian Sea;
Fragmented distribution in the e. part of its range;
(1) W. Europe from Britain and s. Scandinavia s. through the continent (Borzsony, Hungary) to the n. and e. Mediterranean region (s. France) then e. to w. Russia (Black Sea and Volga River).
(2) Sw. Europe in the Iberian Peninsula (Portugal, Spain, the Pyrenees) and ex. sw. France.
(3) Sw. Iran (Zagros Mountains).
(4) Italy e. to Bulgaria, Turkey, the Caucasus, n. Iran and sw. Turkmenistan. Formerly in se. Iran and possibly w. Pakistan (Baluchistan) in the Bampur River Basin.
