Range

Sw. to c. Pacific Ocean;
(1) Cabbage Tree Is. off Port Stephens, New South Wales, Australia from November to April. Entire population is being moved to Boondelbah Is.
(2) New Caledonia in the c. mountains. Disperses into the Tasman Sea off n. New South Wales and s. Queensland and into the sw. Pacific as far as New Zealand (North Island) and the Galapagos Is.
Its dispersal pattern is poorly known apparently due to its small population and ease of confusion with other Cookilaria.

Undefined races possibly breed in the Solomon Is., Vanuatu and Samoa(?).
