Nw. and nc. Pacific Ocean;
Breeds on the Bonin (Ogasawara and Iwo Is.), Volcano Is. and Leeward Hawaiian Is. (Kure, Midway, Pearl, Hermes Reef, Lisianski, Laysan, French Frigate Shoals, Nihoa).
Disperses into the nw. and c. Pacific n. to Siberia (Sakhalin Is.) and Japan, s. to the Ryukyu and Izu Is., Taiwan, the Mariana and Marshall Is. and Kiribati (Phoenix and Line Is.).
