W. Pacific Ocean and ex. e. Indian Ocean;
Breeds on Japanese coastal is. from Hokkaido s. to Kyushu, off Korea (Ullung-do, Chuja-do, Cheju-do), ne. China (s. to Shantung) as well as the Izu Is., Bonin Is. and Taiwan (Pescadores).
Disperses to Siberia (Kuril and Sakhalin Is.) s. to the Philippines, Borneo, c. Coral Sea and e. through Sulawesi, Moluccas, New Guinea, Palau Is. to the Bismarck Archipelago and n. Australia from n. Western Australia (Kimberley region), the Northern Territory (off Arnhem Land), Queensland (Torres Strait, Brisbane, Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island) and New South Wales (Wollongong).
