Range

Atlantic Ocean;
Breeds at only four known sites in the s. Atlantic: Tristan da Cunha (Nightingale and Inaccessible Is.), Gough Is. and Kidney Is. in the Falklands. During breeding season, concentrates in s. Atlantic Ocean between 38-52°S.
Winters (n. summer) mainly in nw. Atlantic Ocean off e. North America (40-67°N), c. North Atlantic Ocean (40-67°N) and off w. Europe between Rockall Bank and Iberian Peninsula.
Migrates around the Atlantic Ocean in a clockwise sense to Argentina (Tierra del Fuego) n. to Uruguay, Brazil (Bahia), Guyana, Surinam, Guiana, Venezuela, the West Indies, e. United States, e. Canada (July and August), s. Greenland and Iceland to w. Europe (late summer) including s. Norway, the British Isles (Atlantic coasts of n. Scotland, Ireland, sw. England), ex. nw. France, Spain, Portugal, nw. Africa (Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia) and from c. Angola s. to Namibia and South Africa (e. Cape of Good Hope) and into the se. Indian Ocean (39-54°S at least to 65°E mostly between 39-45°E) to Crozet Is.

Summer: s. Greenland, n. LAB (e. Hudson Strait, Resolution Island), NFD (Atlantic coast), NSC, se. NBR, MAE, NHP, MAS, RID, NYK (Long Island), NJY, DEL, MYD, VIR, NCA, SCA and further off shore GEO, FLA.
