Range

Nw. South America;
(1) Colombia (all three Andean chains and all slopes 1800-3800m), w. Venezuela (Merida and Tachira, 1800-2200m), e. Ecuador (two nearly isolated populations: one on the Pacific slope (1975-4000m) in n. Canar over the divide and down the e. slope on the Colombian border to 2750m in the Sucumbios region and to 3000m in the Napo at Oycacachi. The second population occurs locally at 1975-2450m on the e. slope s. from Papallacta (Napo) and outlying ridges at Sumaco (Napo), Cutucu (Morona-santiago) and the highest elevations of the Cordillera del Condor (Zamora-Chinchipe) and perhaps at 2600m on Volcan Tungurahua (Tungurahua) and n. Peru (e. to Huancabamba Valley in n. Cajamarca (Cerro Chinguela, 2000m).
(2) Sw. Ecuador (1400-4000m) from Pacific slope in Azuay, the Cajas Plateau and the inter-Andean slopes of Cuenca Valley s. and w. on inter-Andean and Pacific slopes and isolated peaks (>2000m) along the right bank of the Rio Paute. In n. Peru (1220-3200m) on Pacific slope of w. Andes of Piura (Palambla, 1220m, El Tambo, 2000m, Cruz Blanca, 1700-3200m), Lambayeque (Porculla, 1830m), Cajamarca (vicinity of Cascabamba, 2400-2900m).
(3) N. Peru (n. end of the c. Andes and further s. at Puerto del Monte, San Martin, 3200m).
