Range

N. Indian Ocean and w. Pacific Ocean;
Breeds on Verkhovsky Is. and other is. in Peter the Great Bay s. of Vladivostok, Siberia, is. off n. and w. Honshu and n. Kyushu, Japan, is. off the s. and w. coast of Korea (Yellow Sea), off e. China (Wei-hai-wei, Shantung, Takung Tao off Tsingtao), small is. off ne. Taiwan and probably the Ryukyu Is. Recent records indicate that it may breed in the North Atlantic in small numbers (Salvage or Selvagen Is.).
Disperses to ex. se. Siberia (Ussuriland), s. throughout the w. tropical Pacific Ocean and the vicinity of East Indies to the Philippines, in the South China and Java Seas to Indochina, n. Borneo, n. Sumatra and Malaya through the Strait of Malacca and the Sunda Straits into the Indian Ocean, Andaman Is., Sri Lanka to the Arabian Sea, Arabian Peninsula (Oman), Red Sea, Somalia (Cape Guardafui or Raas Caseyr), Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia to the n. Gulf of Aqaba (Elat).
