Range

Cw. Pacific Ocean and across the c. Indian Ocean e. Africa;
Breeds only in the Volcano Is. (Iwo Is., Kita Iwo Jima and Minami Iwo Jima, January to early June) in w. Pacific Ocean.
Disperses s. to the Philippines passing through w. Micronesia (Palau, Marianas and between Pohnpei and Kosrae Is.). It probably enters the Indian Ocean via the Moluccas, w. New Guinea, the Lesser Sundas, Timor Sea and nw. Western Australia (Lacepede and Montebello Is. and Seringapatam Reef) then w. off s. Java and Sumatra (Christmas Is.) to seas off the Seychelles and upwellings in the w. Indian Ocean off n. Madagascar, s. Somalia and Kenya.
