Circumpolar; Southern Ocean, s. Atlantic Ocean, s. Indian Ocean and s. Pacific Ocean;
(1) South Georgia, South Orkney (Signy Is., Larsen Is., and Laurie Is.), South Shetland (Deception Is. and Elephant Is.), Bouvet(?), Heard, Crozets (East), Kerguelen, Auckland, Bounty, Antipodes and Prince Edward I Is.
(2) Tristan da Cunha and Gough Is.
Migrates n. in winter into subtropical and tropical waters s. of equator (extends n. of equator in Indian Ocean).
Dispersed n. to nearly 18°N to Cape Horn (Chile) n. to Peru (s. Lima), Argentina, Falkland Is., Uruguay, Brazil (Bahia) and in the Gulf of Guinea off Sierra Leone and Liberia, s. Namibia, South Africa, c. Arabian Sea (>50 miles off the Arabian Peninsula, Dhofar, Oman), Bay of Bengal, s. Indian Ocean to Australia (e. Queensland, New South Wales, e. Victoria, South Australia and s. Western Australia), s. Tasmania, Tasman Sea, New Zealand, Solomon Is., South Pacific in s. Polynesia in the vicinity of Samoa and the Marquesas Is.
