Greenland, Europe, Middle East, and n. Africa;
Fragmented distribution;
(1) Se. Greenland, Iceland, Faroe Is., Europe in n. Scandinavia e. across n. and c. Russia to nw. Siberia and s. to s. France, n. and c. Italy (Appenines), and c. Romania. Isolated population in the Caucasus on the border of Georgia and Armenia.
Winters in n. Africa, Asia Minor (Iran) and sw. Asia.
(2) Ireland and n. Scotland.
