Range
N. Palearctic to w. Alaska;
Two populations;
(1) N. Europe from n. Scandinavia through n. Russia and n. Siberia to the Kolyma River and s. to sc. Siberia (Lake Baikal), Mongolia, e. Amurland, ne. China (n. and e. Manchuria (Heilungkiang)), and North Korea.
Winters in se. Asia (s. Burma e. to Vietnam, se. China (Fujian, n. Guangdong), Taiwan, and Philippines s. to the Sundas.
(2) Ne. Siberia to Anadyrland, Kamchatka and Chukotsk Peninsula s. to Sakhalin Is. and Kuril Is., and mountains of Japan (Hokkaido, and Honshu).
Winters in Taiwan, Philippines (Luzon, Negros), and Indonesia e. to Lesser Sundas;
(3) W. Alaska from the Noatak River, w. and c. Brooks Range s. to base of Alaskan Peninsula and Susitna River highlands.
Winters in the Philippines and Indonesia e. to Lesser Sundas.
