W. Himalayas to s. India and Sri Lanka, c. China, Indochina, Greater Sundas, and Lesser Sundas;
Fragmented distribution;
(1) N. Pakistan (Murree Hills), n and e. India (Kashmir), se. Tibet, Bangladesh, c. and se. China, Burma, Thailand to Indochina and Malaysia.
Non-breeding birds occur from c. and s. Pakistan (Indus Valley) through plains of n. and c. India, s. China, and Indochina.
(2) Sw. India and Sri Lanka.
(3) S. Burma (s. Tenasserim), sw. and s. Thailand, Peninsular Malaya, Sumatra, Borneo, Java, and Bali.
The Lesser Sundas:
(4) Sumba Is.
(5) Sumbawa, Flores, and Lomblen (Lombok).
