Range

Se. New Guinea, n. and e. Australia;
Three populations;
(1) Coastal se. Australia from e. New South Wales (Royal National Park near Sidney), Australian Capital Territory (Campbell Park) and e. Victoria. Tasmania and islands in the Bass Strait.
Non-breeding birds occur in s. and se. New Guinea w. to Etna Bay and Kumasi River, and ne. Australia (e. Queensland).
(2) Nw. and nc. Western Australia w. to King Sound, and n. Northern Territory (Kakadu National Park).
Non-breeding birds in n. Queensland (Cape York Peninsula).
(3) Ne. Australia from n. Queensland (Cape York Peninsula and Cairns) s. to New South Wales.
(4) Ne. Australia (Cape York Peninsula).
(5) S. and se. New Guinea and islands in the Torres Strait.
(6) D'Entrecasteaux Archipelago (Conflict Is.). Louisiade Archipelago.
