Range
N. Pacific Ocean and Bering Sea;
(1) W. Canada (British Columbia) along the Pacific coast of the United States to Los Coronados Is. off the Baja, Mexico.
(2) Wrangel Is. along the Arctic coast of Siberia (Chukchi Sea, Chukotski Peninsula), s. through the Bering Straits to the Commander Is., Kamchatka Peninsula, Ussuriland along the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk, Kuril and Sakhalin Is. and n. Japan (Hokkaido and perhaps n. Honshu) and in North America from Cape Lisburne, Kotzebue Sound, Alaska and St. Lawrence Is., s. to the Aleutian Is. and s. Alaska.
Disperses s. in the winter to Korea, e. China (Gulf of Liaotung s. to Kwangtung) and s. Japan. The extent of its winter range in Asia is unknown.
