Holarctic;
(1) E. Europe from Scandinavia (sw. Norway and ne. Finland), nw. and c. Russia to c. and s. Siberia (Yakutia), and probably Manchuria.
Wanders nomadically s. during winter to c. Europe and Japan.
(2) W. and c. Alaska, n. Yukon, n. and ec. Mackenzie, n. Saskatchewan across n. Canada to nc. Labrador, and Newfoundland s. to the base of the Alaskan Peninsula, and Kodiak Is. in s. Alaska and the n. United States (Washington, ne. Oregon). Soradically further s. to c. Utah, nc. New Mexico, s. and sw. Alberta, c. Saskatchewan, n. Minnesota, n. Wisconsin, se. Canada, and n. New England (Maine).
Wander nomadically s. during winter to c. United States.
