Range

S. Japan; S. Indochina; Philippines; S. Malaya and Sumatra;
Fragmented distribution;
Breeds in the Russian Far East (Furugelm Is.), on is. in ne. Yellow Sea off North Korea (Yob-do), off e. China (Changshan Is., off se. Liaoning Province, Shanghai, Hong Kong New Territories) and Hainan. Recent records: n. Borneo (Sabah), Bunguran Is. No recent records: Philippines, Sulawesi. Formerly numerous: Taiwan (Taipei, Tan-sui estuary), e. China (Kwangtung near Swatow, Hsu-chou in Kiangsu). It may occur further n. in e. China (Shantung, ne. Hopeh, Port Arthur), Siberia (Ussuriland between Vladivostock and the Amur estuary), South Korea (Saemangeum wetlands, Inchon, Cheju Do), Japan (Honshu, Iriomote in ex. s. Ryukyu Is.).
Winters off both coasts of Malaya (Perak, Selangor, Singapore), Thailand (Krahi) and Vietnam (Cam Ranh Bay and Ca Mau in the Mekong Delta).
