Africa s. of the Sahara in unforested regions; W. Madagascar;
Two populations;
(1) Senegambia, e. Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, s. Mali (Niger River), Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, s. Niger (Lake Chad), Nigeria, Cameroon, s. Chad, Central African Republic, s. Sudan, sw. Ethiopia, Eritrea, s. Somalia, Kenya (Garsen, Tana River, Kisumu), Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Zaire, Tanzania, Congo, Gabon, Angola, Zambia (Zambezi River, lower Kafue Basin, Luangwa Valley, Lake Bangweulu), Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, ex.n. and se. Namibia, n. e. and s. Botswana, e. South Africa.
(2) C. w. Madagascar (Mahajanga to Morombe).
