Congo, Chad, Central African Republic, n. and e. Zaire, s. Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, w. Somalia, Uganda, Kenya (breeds near Kisumu and Garsen, sporadically in or near Rift Valley), Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia (Barotse Province in Kalabo), ex. s. Angola, ex. n. Namibia, n. and se. Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique to c. and s. South Africa (Rand, Zululand, Etosha Pan, Western Cape). W. Madagascar (Kinkony, Bermamba, Ihotry Lakes, Betsiboka River).
