Restricted range;
Ex. s. Peru (Lake Titicaca, Lake Parinacochas in Ayacucho, Lake Salinas in Arequipa), ne. Chile (Tarapaca and Antofagasta on Pedernales, Luyoquis, Colorada and Aguas Calientes saltlakes), w. Bolivia (La Paz, Oruro on Lake Poopo and Lake Coipasa, and Potosi) and nw. Argentina (Jujuy on Lake Pozuelos, Salta, Catamarca, Tucuman).
Sometimes disperses as far as the Pacific coast(?).
