Two main populations with smaller, nomadic inland populations;
C. to sw. Western Australia. Northern Territory, Queensland (Lake Galilee), New South Wales (stronghold in the Murray-Darling Basin, floodplains of Lachlan and Murrumbidee Rivers, Paroo River and Cattaburra Channels, Menindee Lakes system, Lake George), Victoria, c. and e. South Australia (Bool Lagoon) and n. Tasmania.
