Range
W. and e. Australia; New Zealand;
Two populations;
Australia in w. and sw. Western Australia, e. Queensland, s. and e. New South Wales (Lakes Cowal, Brewster, George), Victoria, se. South Australia (the Coorong) and Tasmania (Moulting Lagoon). Disperses to the Northern Territory, w. Queensland, w. New South Wales, e. and s. South Australia.
Introduced to New Zealand in 1864 and 1868 (Waikato Lakes on North Island and on South Island the Otago lakes and Ellesmere Lake off the s. Banks Peninsula). Expanded it range to Chatham Is. before 1922 where it gathers on the c. lagoon of the main is.
