Range
Palearctic in tiaga zone;
Breeds in a narrow belt across n. Norway, n. Sweden, n. Finland (Liminka Bay, Oulu Province), n. Russia and n. Siberia to Anadyrland.
Migrates from the Valdak Marshes of n. Finland e. to the Kanin Peninsula of n. Russia (salt marshes between the Torna and Mesna Rivers n. of the village of Shoina on the w. coast of the peninsula) s. over two routes: 1) e. to the Ob valley and s. to Kazakstan and Azerbaijan, and 2) w. along the Baltic Sea, through Poland, e. Germany (Galenbecker See in October), Hungary (Hortobagy National Park) and Belarus to winter in Yugoslavia (Danube and Sava River valleys), Albania, ne. Greece (Lake Kerkini in early November and s. to the Evros Delta on the border of Turkey), the Black Sea coasts of Bulgaria (Poda Lagoon), Romania and s. Russia. se. Iraq and sw. Iran (lower Euphrates River, Khuzestan Province), s. Caspian Sea region (Azerbaidjan, ne. Iran and along the Afghanistan border), Kazakhstan, s. Japan, s. Korea, e. China (Yellow and lower Yangtze River valleys) from Manchuria s. through Shantung, Honan, Hupeh, n. Fukien (Haitan Tao) and Kwangtung.
