E. Europe in n. Greece, Slovakia, Hungary (Hortobagy National Park and Zemplen), Bulgaria, c. and s. Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey and Cyprus to n. Iran, Kazakhstan, sw. Siberia, Lake Baikal, c. Transbaicalia, Mongolia and w. China (w. Sinkiang). Permanent resident in Solvakia and Hungary.
Winters s. to s. Turkey, Iraq, Israel (Hula Nature Reserve), Jordan (plains between Irbid and Mafraq), Iran, Persian Gulf, n. and e. Africa, Kenya (Rift Valley, Mara GR), Egypt, Saudi Arabia (Mahazat as-Sayd Reserve), Pakistan, n. India, e. China (Mai Po Marshes and Long Valley, Hong Kong in the winter), Laos and Vietnam.
