C. Central America and nw. to se. South America; Wc. South America;
Two populations;
S. and e. Mexico (Nayarit, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Chiapas and Yucatan Peninsula) s. in Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panam to South America where it extends s. along the Pacific slope to w. Ecuador and e. through Colombia (Huila, Perija Mountains, Guajira, Cesar, along the w. slope in nw. Cundinamarca near Paime, along the e. slope of the upper Magdalena Valley along the Rio Moscopan, along the Pacific coast in Valle, and e. of the Andes in Casanare, Meta (Macarena Mountains) and w. Caqueta, Amazonas) to n. and s. Venezuela (Aragua, Distrito Federal, Miranda, w. Amazonas, se. Bolivar), Guyana, Surinam, Guiana to e. and s. Brazil in the Rio Branco region n. of the Amazon and s. of the Amazon in Bahia (Monte Pascoal), Para e. and s. to Mato Grosso and Rio Grande do Sul, n. and e. Bolivia (Beni and La Paz to Cochabamba and Santa Cruz), Paraguay and n. Argentina (Jujuy, Salta, Tucuman, Formosa and Misiones). There may be an isolated population in ne. Peru (Loreto).
