Europe to c. Asia;
Fragmented populations;
(1) W. Europe from s. British Isles (sw. England) to s. Scandinavia (s. Sweden to n. Finland (Liminka Bay, Oulu Province)), Denmark, Poland (Biebrza Marsh and Karsiborska Kepa in the Swina River Delta), Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Corsica, Sardinia, Italy, e. Austria (Neusiedlersee), Czechoslovakia, Hungary, the former Yugoslavia, Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Israel, nw. and c. Russia to sw. Siberia (upper Yenisei River) so to n. Mediterranean region, Turkey, Iraq, w. Mongolia and w. China (w. Sinkiang).
(2) Nw. Africa (Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia).
The w. population winters from the s. British Isles s. to c. and se. Africa (c. and w. Kenya) and the e. population winters in India and Sri Lanka to se. Asia, se. China and the Greater Sundas.
