Australia; New Zeland; New Guinea and islands of the sw. Pacific;
Two main populations and scattered island populations;
S. New Guinea, Australia (sw. Western Australia, nw. and se. Northern Territory, coastal ne. and s. Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, ne. and se. South Australia), Tasmania, New Zealand, Lord Howe and Norfolk Is., New Caledonia, Loyalty Is., Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, Chatham and Kermadec Is.
Moves n. from s. Australia in the winter to n. Australia and s. New Guinea.
Introduced to the Society Is.
