E. Europe to ec. Asia;
(1) C. Europe (s. Czechoslovakia, Austria, Apaj Puszta, Kiskunsag National Park, and Hortobagy National Park, Hungary and Romania) through sw. Russia and the Ukraine to the Yenisey River and foothills of the Altai Mountains in sw. Siberia s. to Turkey, Iraq and Iran.
Winters in c. and e. Mediterranean Basin to ne. Africa (Sudan, Ethiopia and n. Kenya) and Arabia to n. Pakistan, nw. India, sw. Siberia (Altai Mountains), nw. Mongolia and ex. w. China (nw. and sw. Sinkiang or Xinjiang, Bayanbulak Nature Reserve).
(2) Se. Siberia, n. Mongolia and n. China s. to w. and c. China (Qinghai or Tsinghai, Gansu and Ningxia Provinces).
Winters from Iran e. to Nepal, nw. India Tibet and c. China.
