Range

Holarctic;
Greenland, Iceland (headwaters of Jokulsa a Dal and Hokulsa a Fljotsdal at the ne. edge of the Vatnajokull glacier near the Snaefell volcano), Arctic Europe across Scandinavia, n. Russia and n. Siberia to Bering Is., the Chukotski Peninsula and s. to Koryakland and Kamchatka Peninsula. North America from Alaska and n. Canada (n. Yukon including Banks Is., Prince Patrick Is., Ellesmere Is. s. to c. Alaska w. in the Aleutians to Umnak, nw. British Columbia, s. Yukon, n. Machenzie, s. Keewatin, Southampton Is., c. Quebec and n. Labrador. Most birds remain n. of 50°N, moving as far s. as 35°N in North America and ca. 46°N in Eurasia.
