Arid regions from se. Europe across c. Asia;
(1) Ne. Greece e. of Komotini and islands in n. Aegean Sea and se. Bulgaria to n. Turkey (Koru range and Tekir range).
(2) S. Turkey, Cyprus, islands in s. Aegean Sea (Crete and Rhodes) and s. Greek Is. (Kikladhes Is.).
(3) E. Turkey to the Caucasus Mountains of Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and s. Kurdistan, ne., n. and w. Iran (foothills of the Zagros Mountains, Elburz Mountains).
(4) Desert of n. Syria, Lebanon, Israel (Eilat, Hula Valley) and Palestine s. to the Sinai Peninsula, w. Jordan, and nw. Saudi Arabia. Isolated population along the Strait of Hormuz, Musandam, Oman, which may have been introduced long ago.
(5) E. Iraq and sw. Iran.
(6) E. Iran (Kopet Dagh), w. and s. Afghanistan, and w. Pakistan.
(7) C. Turkmenistan, sw. and se. Kazakhstan n. to the Mangyshlak Peninsula, n. Afghanistan, c. Uzbekistan, sw. Tadjikistan (Vargod River, Kyzylkum Mountains).
(8) Se. Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, s. Uzbekistan s. to nc. Afghanistan and e. to ex. nw. China (w. Xinjiang (Sinkiang) in the Pamir Mountains, Altai Mountains, w. and c. Tien Shan.
(9) Ne. Kazakhstan in e. Tien Shan, Zaysan basin to Altai Mountains, sc. Siberia (Tuva Republic), nw. Mongolia (w. Tannu Ola Mountains) and ex. nw. China (Xinjiang in the Tarbagatai Mountains) and e. Tibet(?).

Introduced in United Kingdom, Ukraine (Crimea), UAE, Bahrain, and Qatar, w. North America (ex. sw. Canada and w. United States), Mexico, St. Helena Is., Robbens Is. off South Africa and New Zealand (mostly South Island). These birds have been mixtures of this species and Rock Partridges. Birds introduce to the Hawaiian Is. are known to have derived exclusively from this species;
