India, se. Asia, Lesser Sundas, Greater Sundas and the Philippines;
Mainland and fragmented island distribution;
(1) Pakistan, Maldives, Laccadive Is.?, India and Sri Lanka to Malaya, Indochina, e. China, Hainan Is., Ryukyu Is., the Philippines, Taiwan and s. in Sumatra and associated is., Java and Kangean Is. and Borneo including the Natuna Is..
N. populations winter s. and w. Arabia. Expanding range n. into s. Japan.
(2) Andaman and Nicobar Is.
(3) C. Nicobar Is.
(4) Lesser Sundas (Bali e. to Damar and Romang, Sumba and Timor), Sulawesi (Tukangvesi, Tanahdjampea, Buting, and Sangihe Is.) and w. Moluccas (Buru Is.). Talaud Is.
