C. Palearctic. S. and e. Africa;
Two main populations;
Europe (s. England and s. Scandinavia e. across s. Russia, s. Ukraine, Bulgaria (Poda Lagoon on the Black Sea), Caucasus, Transcausus and from s. Transcaspia and the Volga-Ural steppes to s. Siberia (Transbaicalia, Mongolia, w. and n. China) s. to the Mediterranean Basin, Turkey, nw. and cs. Iran, cn. Afghanistan, Pakistan and sw. India (Gujarat). Locally in n. Africa (Morocco to Tunisia), Spanish Sahara, Somalia, Uganda, Kenya, n. Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and s. and e. Africa (South Africa).
Winters from w. Europe and coastal Africa to the Middle East, nw. India and China.
