Two main populations with scattered isolated populations;
C. and e. Canada from sc. Alberta, n. Saskatchewan, sc. Manitoba s. in the United States in e. Montana, e. Colorado, nw. North Dakota, se. South Dakota, c. and e. Nebraska and w. Oklahoma. Great Lakes region from n. Michigan and s. Ontario s. on Lake Michigan, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Coastal e. Canada in n. New Brunswick, Prince Edward Is., s. Nova Scotia, se. Quebec and Newfoundland.
Winters in the se. United States to North Carolina and the West Indies (Bahamas and Greater Antilles).
Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary, TEX, Fort DeSoto County Park, Pinellas County Park, FLA, and Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve, MAE.
