Range
W. Alaska;
Nests in two areas of w. Alaska in the hills around the Yukon River and Kuskokwim River deltas on the c. Seward Peninsula. A few birds may occasionally breed on the Chukotsky Peninsula, but these claims are presently unsupported.
Migration: gathers along the coast of Alaska (Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta) just prior to migration. Most birds overfly the nw. Hawaiian Islands. During migration occurs on the Pribilof Islands, Aleutians, Hawaiian Is. and Marquesas.
Winters over a vast area of the c. Pacific from 23°-28°N in nw. Hawaiian Is. (Laysan Is., Kahuku on Oahu), Northern Mariana Islands, Palmyra Atoll, n. Line Is., Marshall Is., Takutea Sand Cay off Atiu Is., Nauru, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Tokelau, Santa Cruz Is., Fiji Is., Tonga Is., Niue, Samoa, American Samoa, s. Cook Is., Tuamotu Archipelago and French Polynesia (Marquesas), Solomon Islands, Norfolk Is. Kermadec Is. to 25°S at Pitcairn Is. (Oeno) and Easter Island. ___________________________________________________________________________________
