Circumpolar; Antarctica and subantarctic is. in the sw. Atlantic Ocean; Antarctic seas s. to ca. 65°S;
Breeds mainly on is. in the sw. Atlantic Ocean including Ilsa Hornos off ex. s. Chile, the South Shetlands (Deception, Livingston, Robert, Nelson, King George I, Snow, Smith and Low Is.), the South Orkney (Coronation, Signy, Moe, Mariholm, Powell, Saddle, Laurie and Frederiksen Is.),the South Sandwich and South Georgia Is. and the Antarctic Peninsula (Antarctica including the Trinity Peninsula, Alcock Is., is. of the Gerlache Straits as far s. as Anvers Is. and in lesser numbers in the se. Atlantic Ocean on Bouvet Is., in the s. Indian Ocean on Heard Is. (?) and in the s. Pacific Ocean on Balleny Is., Scott Is., and Peter I Is.
Dispersaes n. to Tasmania, Falkland Is., Crozet, Kerguelen and Macquarie Is. and s. to the coast of Antarctica.
