New Guinea and adjacent islands and n. and e. Australia and Tasmania;
Two main populations;
(1) New Guinea and n. and e. Papuan Is. (Numfor Is.).
Introduced to the e. Moluccas (Seram Laut and Kai Is.) and Palau Is.
(2) Aru Is.
(3) N. Australia from n. Western Australia (Fitzroy River), n. Northern Territory and ex. nw. Queensland.
(4) E. and se. Australia from n. Queensland (Cape York, Samsonvale), e. New South Wales, Victoria, se. South Australia and Tasmania.
Introduced to sw. Australia (Western Australia) and New Zealand.
