Sub-Saharan Africa;
Senegambia, s. Mauritania across s. Mali, s. Niger, Cameroon, Bioko Is., s. Chad, s. Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia s. to South Africa.
Occurs in Yemen during migrations and may breed there;
