Range

S. c. Canada and w. United States; C. Mexico;
Two populations;
(1) W. United States in Utah and Colorado s. to c. New Mexico.
(2) From Lake Caballo, New Mexico through the c. plateau of Mexico from n. Chihuahua to n. Guerrero (Lake Tuxpan) and Nayarit. Winters along the Pacific coast of the United States s. from n. California to Mexico along the coast of the Baja and s. to Guerrero, locally inland.

Summer: (1) CAL, e. ORG, c. IDH, MON (e. of the Rockies), s. SAS, sw. MAN, s. to WYO, NDK, SDK, ex. sw. MIN, w. NEB, w. KAN, COL, UTH, NEV, w. ARZ and NMX. (2) Sw. NMX (Lake Caballo);
Winter: Pacific coast of CAL and locally inland to s. NEV and w. ARZ, c. NMX, w. TEX.
