The butterfly photos on this site have all been taken by myself with the exception of the Hawaiian Blue. I have used digital cameras (Nikon Coolpix 990 or Canon 20D) to obtain the images. The Canon 20D has been used with a 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS lens with or without a 36mm extension tube. With the Nikon Coolpix 990 the photos were taken either by holding the camera up to the eyepiece of my spotting scope (Swarovski ATS 65 HD with 30mm eyepiece), with a 3x multiplier lens or with the camera's built-in lens. I believe the well being of the butterfly is more important than the photograph and have tried to use nonintrusive techniques such as taking the photo through my spotting scope or using zoom lenses.
