Range
W. Pacific Ocean s. of the equator;
(1) Society (Tahiti, Moorea), Marquesas (Hiva Oa, Tahuata, Nuku Hiva), probably Samoa (Tau) and possibly Cook Is. (Rarotonga). Disperses to the Fiji Is., ne. Australia (ne. Queensland, outer Great Barrier Reef and off Brisbane), ne. New Guinea, the Bismarck Archipelago and into the e. Indian Ocean, Banda Sea, Coral Sea to e. of Taiwan, to 7°N in Kiribati and into the e. Pacific Ocean off Mexico s. to Peru.
(2) C. w. Pacific Ocean; Breeding ground is unknown, but may be on Bougainville Is. in the Solomon Is. It has only been collected at sea at two locations: 1) n. of Buka Is. (155°E and 3°S) e. of New Ireland in the Bismarck Archipelago and 2) ne. of Rendova Is. in the Solomon Is.
