Range
N. Korea and adjacent China;
Restricted range;
Ne. China in c. Manchuria (Harbin region) and Fukien, Taegamdo and Tokto Is. off w. coast of North Korea, is. in the Han River Estuary off w. coast of Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), Uido Is. off Jonrapuk-do, South Korea and s. in e. China (Changshan Is. off se. Liaoning Province). Formerly bred in s. Korea on small islands off the sw. coast. Migration stop overs in Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve, Shandong, China.
Winters in se. China (coastal Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Kwangtung Provinces, Hainan) including Hong Kong (Mai Po), Japan (Honshu, Kyushu in Zuibaiji River Estuary on Hakata Bay s. to the Ryukyu Is.), South Korea (Saemangeum wetlands), Taiwan (Tsen-Wen (Tsangwen) River estuary) and Indochina (Cambodia, n. and s. Vietnam in the Red River Delta). Recorded from the Batanes Is. (Sabtang Is. 200kms s. of Taiwan) and Philippines (Luzon).
