Range
Ne. c. Asia;
Fragmented distribution;
Original range from sw., c. and s. Siberia in the Altai Mountains (upper Ob and Tobol Rivers), e. Transbaicalia to Amurland, n. Ussuriland and Sakhalin Is., s. to c. Mongolia (Orog Nor and Achitu Nor n. of the Altai Mountains and s. of the Khangai Mountains, the Selenga, Toula and Kerulen Rivers and Buyr Nor) and ne. China in Inner Mongolia, Heilungkiang (Manchuria) and Kirin. Its range is much more fragmented today. Migrates through c. China (Sinkiang, Tsinghai, e. Kansu, Ningsia, Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang (Zhalong Nature Reserve), Shensi, Honan, Shantung).
Winters s. to nc. and e. China (lower Yangtze River and occasionally s. Fukien and Kwangtung), Korea, Japan (Kyushu n.) and Taiwan.
