(1) Breeds from Iceland, Ireland, Scotland (Outer Hebrides), England, Netherlands, Belgium, coastal Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Denmark, e. Germany, Poland (Karsiborska Kepa at the mouth of the River Swina), ex. e. Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia (Sava and Danube River basins), n. Greece (Macedonia), w. Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Russia from the Gulf of Finland, Lakes Ladoga and Onega, s. Ukraine (Kuybyshev Res.), n. Black Sea (lower Volga River) and the Sea of Azov to the Caucasus (Azerbaydzhan). Winters in Ireland, Scotland, England, Belgium Netherlands, w. Germany, ex. e. Austria (Neusiedlersee), Black Sea (Danube delta, Sea Azov), Turkey, n. Greece, Albania, se. Yugoslavia, Italy, s. France, (Camargue), Spain (Rio Ebro and Rio Guadalquivir deltas), Portugal, n. Morocco, n. Algeria, n. Tunisia, Syria, Jordan.
(2) Breeds from c. Russia w. of the Ural Mountains, n. and w. Caspian Sea, se. Iraq, Transcaucasus in ex. nw. and ne. Iran, Afghanistan, n. in the Ob River valley of w. Siberia to the Gulf of Ob and s. to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkestan then across s. Siberia (Lake Baikal) to the Soviet Far East (Ussuriland, Amurland, Amur River Valley) and across n. China from w. Sinkiang (valleys of the Tien Shan Mountains), Tsinghai, Kansu, n. Ningsia, Mongolia (Altai Mountain valleys) and Inner Mongolia (s. of Khangai) to Manchuria. Winters in se. Iraq, sw. Iran along the Persian Gulf, n. Iran along the s. Caspian Sea and e. Iran along the sw. Afghanistan border in the Sistan Basin), Uzbek, s. Kazakhstan, w. China, Pakistan (Salt Range Lakes), n.
