Range

Andes of w. South America and s. South America;
W. Venezuela (Perija Mountains, w. Merida) and Colombia (Ecoparque Los Besotes, 9km from Valledupar) through Andes of Ecuador and Peru where it occurs along the seacoasts, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina to Navarino Is. in Tierra del Fuego.
Repopulation program begun in Venezuela, Sierra de la Culata.
