Nc. and e. Central America;
Two populations;
(2) Sc. United States (ex. se. tip of Texas in the lower Rio Grande Valley (Bensten-Rio Grande State Park, Welder Wildlife Refuge, Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, and Sabel Palm Sanctuary, Brownsville) to ne. Mexico (Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas s. to se. San Luis Potosi and ex. N. Veracruz).
Introduced to San Patricio County, Texas, and Sapelo Is., Georgia, but may now be extirpated at the latter location.
(2) E. and s. Mexico (c. Veracruz and e. Puebla s. through n. Oaxaca, Tabasco, Chiapas, and s. Campeche, n. Guatemala , n. and c. Honduras (La Tigra National Park) to nc. Nicaragua. Isolated population in nw. Costa Rica (Nicoya Peninsula and in the lowlands s. to head of the Gulf of Nicoya at Palo Verde National Park and Santa Rosa National Park).
(3) Ec. Mexico (Yucatan and Cancun Is.).
(4) Se. Mexico (s. Yucatan, Quintana Roo), Belize, e. Guatemala (Tikal National Park, Rio Dulce National Park, Laguna La Chua National Park).
(5) Utila Is. off n. Honduras.
