Range

W. Africa to ec. Africa and s. to s. Africa;
Fragmented populations in the s. part of its range;
(1) Senegambia, s. Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, s. Niger, Cameroon, Congo, Central African Republic, Sudan, w. Ethiopia, Uganda, and n. Zaire. Possibly occurs in nw. Kenya.
(2) E. Africa from Kenya (c. Serengeti National Park, n. Masai Mara Game Reserve e. to Narok and on the sw. slope of the Mau Escarpment, but main stronghold is now the Laikipia Plateau and high grasslands nw. of Maralal) to Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Malawi, s. Zaire, Zambia, s. Angola, n. Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and c. Mozambique.
(3) South Africa (e. and s. Transvaal, e. Orange Free State, Natal, e. and c. Cape Province).
