Range
W. to e. Africa. Tropical s. Africa;
Two populations;
(1) Inner Nile Delta (18°N along the Nile River) s. to Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Kenya, e. Uganda and Tanzania.
(2) S. Mauritania, Senegambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea e. in a narrow strip through s. Mali along the Niger River, Burkina Faso, s. Niger, n. Ivory Coast, n. Ghana, Benin, Togo, n. Nigeria, ne. Cameroon, s. Chad, n. Central African Republic and s. Sudan.
(3) Malawi, Zambia in Luangwa and Zambezi Valleys, Zimbabwe, n. and e. Botswana, w. and s. Angola as far n. as Catumbela, ne. Namibia, w. and sw. Mozambique and ne. South Africa (Transvaal, n. Natal).
(4) N. Namibia (Damaraland, n. and c. highlands).
